Nuwara Eliya – Little England of Sri Lanka

Nuwara Eliya, often affectionately called "Little England," is a charming city situated at an elevation of nearly 2,000 meters in the heart of Sri Lanka's tea country. Known for its cool, misty climate and verdant landscapes, it was a favored hill station for British civil servants and planters during the colonial era. Today, the city retains much of its colonial architecture, featuring Tudor-style cottages, well-manicured gardens, and grand old hotels that transport visitors back in time.

The surrounding region is the epicenter of Sri Lanka's tea industry, producing some of the finest Orange Pekoe tea in the world. Visitors can tour working tea estates, watch the meticulous process of tea plucking by locals in vibrant saris, and enjoy fresh, world-class tea straight from the factory. The area is also famous for its breathtaking waterfalls, such as Ramboda Falls, and the beautiful Hakgala Botanical Gardens, renowned for its roses and orchids.

In the center of town lies Lake Gregory, a picturesque reservoir ideal for boating, cycling, and leisurely evening strolls. Nearby, the Horton Plains National Park offers a spectacular hike through a unique ecosystem ending at World's End, a sheer precipice with a drop of nearly 1,200 meters.
